This small pair of firedogs was made in gilt bronze in the second half of the 19th century.
Each andirons bears a little putto laying on a acanthus leave and facing each other. One plays with a flowers decoration and could depict Venus as a child, while the other plays with grapes and could be Bacchus as a child. This charming decoration was made by a skilled artist for who it is important to underline the remarkable work especially the quality of the carving.
