This exceptional antique gilt bronze fire fender was made circa 1880. It bears the signature of the famous parisian bronze manufacturer Ferdinand Barbedienne .
At both ends, figures of "Day" and "Night" are made after the sumptuous marble statues executed by Michelangelo for the Tomb of Julian de Medici, Duke of Nemours, which is located in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Firenze, Italy.
