"Aurora" and "Twilight" are two very important cast iron torches signed by the Val d'Osne Foundry . Made in the second half of the 19th century, they represent two women with bodies covered with light drapes, each supporting a flame.
These famous models are illustrated in the catalog of the Val d'Osne Foundry . Period editions are also visible in several prestigious places around the world such as in front of the Teatro Santa Isabel de Recife in Brazil or in the gardens of the National Congress of Santiago de Chile. In France, they are also found in the museum of Saint-Dizier or in the town of Lorient (Brittany).
Although the creator of "Aurora" and "Twilight" is not clearly identified, several sources report that it could be the sculptor Mathurin Moreau .
Exceptional dimensions, more than 2 meters high, these torcheres are as rare as sought after. The polychromy of these statues, in which the elements of the decoration are enhanced in golden paint, adds to the remarkable character of these.
