This Louis XV-style fireplace is carved in Medici Breche Marble. The pattern of a shell adorns the band center, which is characteristic of the Louis XV style. Scrolls surround the shell and merge with hollow moldings that mold the curved form of the band. Two shells take place at the top of the leg, which is also typical of Louis XV-style borrowing from the Rococo style. This is expressed by an ornamentation taking up an aquatic discourse and is found here in the pattern of the shell.

The artist has chosen here to use Medici Breche, which is widely veined and characterized by its many colors such as yellow, pink, purple, gray, and white. This choice may reflect the artist’s will to use a marble type frequently employed under Louis XV. Its name would come from Cosimo I de’ Medici. We can find it in the Medici chapels in the Basilica of San Lorenzo in Florence, Italy.

This fireplace is sold without any fireplace insert nor marble floor but could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
