This Louis XVI style fireplace is characterized by the combination of red breche marble and
bronze, a blend of materials characteristic of the Louis XVI-style.
The fireplace’s band is simple in form. It is adorned with a geometrical Greek frieze. The frieze is composed of circles. Each of the large circles is carved with a different flower, but all with leaves. In the smaller circles and outlines, the leafy motifs are identical. This mix of natural and antique Greek motifs is typical of the Louis XVI-style. Also typical of this style is the use of gilded bronze pearls, which on this fireplace run around the Greek frieze.
The leafy motifs of the entablature are continued on the console part of the legs. Framed in a square, acanthus leaves join to form a flower with a central bud in relief. The top of the legs is curved, leaving room for scrolls on the sides.
A ribbon is placed to the top of the leg, from which oak leaf offcuts and acorn cupule emerge. The rest of the leg is framed by pearls decorating the length of the foot.
This fireplace is sold with a modern cast iron insert adapted to this fireplace but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
