Neo-Gothic armchair in oak with a cathedral and bas-relief decor

This armchair was made of finaly sculpted oak in the last decades of the 19th century.
Its shape and decor are inspired by the Gothic chairs, indeed, we find the rectangular hight and straight backrest and sculpted motifs reminding of cathedrals' ones and especially the roses framework and the pinnacles. The seat is adorned with decorations in relief depicting Gothic windows. The straight armrests takes put weight on it and come against the backrest depicting a very rich decor in slight relief and openworked. The central flap panel is adorned with a scene of the daily medieval life where we can see four characters disscussing under a Gothic architecture. The backrest also receives an architectural decoration on its mounts and pediment.
