This Neo-Gothic style bench has been made in the 19th century in walnut.
The seat rectangular shape is decorated with “ parchemin plissés ” patterns (folded parchment), framed by Ionic columns.
The armrests and the back's top is carved with openwork fenestrations.
The back is carved in low relief of knotted ribbons supporting four coat of arms.
In the 19th century, ornaments and sketches of Gothic objects were published. They were a source of inspiration for designers, which were asked to built gothic revival furnitures. One of the most popular edition was Viollet-le-Duc's dictionary of ornament (see detail).
