This large walnut cabinet is signed by the cabinetmaker Leroux and is dated 1885. Following the trend of the time to follow past styles, this cabinet is decorated with scenes inspired by the troubadour style that were followed during the Middle ages. The upper part features two panels carved in very high relief: on the left panel there is an elaborately decorated lady placed in an architectural decor, whilst on the right panel a Jester seems to be trying to distract her. On either side of the two panels there is a character, a guard holding a pole-arm is on the right-hand side, whilst an intrigued character, dressed in a pourpoint, watches the scene that is unfolding in the middle with great interest. The lower part is supported by two winged chimeras featuring the faces of old women. This cabinet is also greatly inspired by french furniture made during the 16th century. This cabinet thus revives Renaissance forms coming from Antiquity sources.
