Leroux Cabinet-Maker
Download PDFThe cabinetmaker Lerouxhad a workshop on rue Montmatre in Paris in 1867. This same year, he took part in the Universal Exhibition where he presented “sofa beds containing their own bedding and upholstery” (see The French Furniture of the 19th century, Denise Ledoux-Lebard). By drawing on eclecticism, inspiration from the second half of the 19th century, Leroux developed an ornamental vocabulary inspired by the Middle Ages and Renaissance, whilst still following the style of the work made during the 1880s.
