GECHTER 'The Warriors'
Pair of gilded and silverplated bronze sculptures
Circa 1840
This pair of fully armored warriors cast in gilded and silver plated bronze were sculpted by Gechter, a famous artist of the Romantic period. Their shoulders are covered with pelts, a lion for one and a fox for the other. The warriors faces are alert, expressing tension. The first warrior's armour is elaborately adorned with bronze motifs, his shield bears an heraldic crowned lion. The second warrior's armor, sword and shield are masterpieces of chiseling and sculpture.
