This lavish Napoleon III period mirror with rococo-style ornamentation was crafted in the second half of the 19th century.
Its two bevelled glass mirrors are framed by ornamental vocabulary characteristic of rococo art, which flourished under the reign of Louis XV. Its structure, full of curves and counter-curves, is marked by a certain asymmetry. The ornamentation is mainly composed of shells with cut edges, acanthus leaves, and other foliage. At the top stands a cherub, echoed at the bottom by a delicate butterfly.
The rococo aesthetic of our mirror is enhanced by the quality of the gilding and the chiseling.
