Pair of covered vases made in green marble decorated with a rich ornamentation of gilt bronze such as: seed topping the lid ; handles with draped young Egyptian girls, their bodies turning into foliated scrolls ; friezes of plants and pearls ; palms and a dentate frieze on the pedestal base.

These type of vases are typical of the Louis XVI style . But another style is present here : Egyptomania . This influence is present in one detail : the two girls are wearing Nemes, the pharaohs headdress.
These objects were often used to decorate the fireplace or put on consoles. Great silversmiths imagined several design for wealthy clients. Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751 - 1843) was one of them. He worked during the reign of Louis XVI but also made beautiful Empire items for Napoleon. Our model was inspired by this production, such as the one found in the Department of Decorative Arts of the Louvre Museum - see detail.
