This antique Napoleon III style clock set consists of a clock and a pair of candelabras. The set, made at the end of the 19th century by the famous bronze manufacturer Susse Frères, is made out of Black Belgian marble, gilt bronze and bronze with brown patina.
On the clock, we recognize the model created by the sculptor James Pradier, 'Sappho.' The original Statuary Carrara marble sculpture was made in 1852 and is now in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. The bronze is signed 'J. Pradier.'
Candelabras represent two women, one of them wearing a crown of flowers while the second carries a trumpet. Both candlesticks are signed 'Moreau Ainé', proving that the model belongs to the French sculptor who lived until 1806.
The clock is signed 'Bailly Sr de Weibel'.
