Louis XVI style fireplace set made of gilt bronze and alabaster. Made around 1880 by Charvet, a clockmaker from Lyon, the set features a clock and a pair of candelabras. A bronze group with a seated woman and a putto supports the circular dial with Roman numerals plated with gold leaf. The dial is surrounded by a bronze frieze of palmette leaves and topped by intertwined branches of laurel. The alabaster base is plated with bronze low-reliefs of foliated scrolls. Very fine detail and chiseling.
The pair of candelabras is adorned with gilt bronze ram heads.
'Charvet Aîné et Cie' was founded in Lyon in 1852.
