19th century

Good condition

Of particularly imposing size, this exceptional Napoleon III ornamental vase was executed in the second half of the 19th century.

On the body of this enameled faience vase blooms a rich polychrome enamel decor depicting flowers inhabited by birds and butterflies against a blue sky background punctuated by a few clouds. The iridescent wings of the butterflies are achieved through the use of metallic oxides. The neck and base are adorned with friezes of stylized palmettes.

The piece rests on an ebony-plated base enhanced with gilt bronze ornaments representing rectangular rosettes at the base and four female faces, a series of palmettes, and a laurel leaf wreath at the upper level.

The whole, of great preciousness, is characteristic of the decorative arts under the French Emperor Napoleon III, between 1852 and 1870.

The cottony blue sky, the delicate yellow-outlined motifs, the natural and ornamental patterns, and even the metallic reflections of the butterfly wings connect this vase to the production of Théodore Deck.
