This magnificent Neo-Gothic style stained glass window is dated 1896 and signed by Hubert and Martineau. The window depicts a knight in armor and a reading lady, dressed in the 15th century fashion. They stand each under an arch in Gothic flamboyant style, and stand out against a background imitating the Renaissance tapestries.
The stained-glass window uses the techniques of enamelled glass and acid-etched glass.
Hubert and Martineau were Parisian glass painters in the last quarter of the 19th century. They created the superb decor of the Fermette Marbeuf, a restaurant located at the corner of rue Boccador and rue Marbeuf in Paris. They also realized, in 1891 - 1893, the stained glass windows of the church of Saint Rémi de Draveil, Essonne.
