Bronze Japanese streetlight. This exquisite streetlight of Japanese inspiration is the work of a French creator made towards the end of the 19th century. Made out of bronze with four different patinas, this streetlight has a décor with a dragon in the round winding around the central pillar. The pillar is made to look like bamboo. Originally a kerosene lamp, this streetlight has a central protruding paunch that would have contained the fuel, which is covered with a bronze décor of birds and foliage. A second smaller dragon also runs across this paunch. This piece rests on four curved legs supported by four gilded bronze dogs. The chiselling work of this piece is completely exceptional and rare, as is the care taken on the different patinas.
