This Napoleon III-style fireplace in Portor marble stands out with its eclectic character through several motifs from different styles (name the styles).
The originality of the fireplace’s legs comes from the use of different motifs that are rarely combined. At the top of the leg, a geometric spike motif is used. The shell motif in marble, particularly used in the Louis XV style, follows the curved shape of the leg. On the sides of the console leg, there are wide scrolls. The leg’s curve inverts and continues downwards, gradually carving out three flutes derived from the curves of the shell. At the bottom of the leg a lion's paw stands out, distinguished by its four fingers and pointed claw, in the manner of the ancient Romans.
The band is simple, rectangular, and unpatterned. The absence of patterns makes it easier to see the Portor marble. This is a particularly rare marble, one of the richest in the world. It is characterized by a dark black color with golden-yellow veins.
This fireplace is sold with a modern cast iron insert adapted to this fireplace and with its marble floor restored in our workshop.
