This gilded overmantel is simple in form, with a rectilinear frame and rounded corners. It is crowned by an openwork shell, echoing the aquatic theme of the Rococo style, characteristic of the Louis XV style. The shell is surrounded by acanthus leaves that curl around the shell and stretch out to the sides. Two flowers are located on either side of the shell. The whole ornament is almost symmetrical, but there are a few asymmetrical details.
