This staircase in cast iron and wrought iron dates to 1865; it was reportedly made for the Palais Bourbon in Paris, now the seat of the French National Assembly.
It is a double quarter-turn staircase that leads to a walkway.
The staircase features regular, geometric ornamentation. The first step is particularly decorated: with rounded corners at the front, it bears the date 1865, surrounded by a palmette and stylized leaves. The following steps are simply openworked. The risers are adorned with a rose in their center and fluted openwork on either side. The starting posts are especially elaborate. The staircase is equipped with a handrail that accompanies the ascent.
The walkway to which it leads features similar ornamentation. The supporting brackets are highly ornate: at the top, a frieze of openwork fluting echoes that of the risers and completes a rose; at the bottom, a scroll responds to the various geometric or acanthus scroll friezes.
