In very good condition. Nice patina built over the ages.
This pair of Napoleon III style lamps, was made in bronze with double patina brown and gilded. They are signed 'F. LEVILLAIN' above the base.
The handles of those lamps are formed by two volutes ending with a grotesque mask of an old bearded man, in high relief. The four sides of the lamps are adorned with the same masks.
Those lamps are decorated with motifs from Classical Antiquity. Each grotesque masks are embellished with two feline, a caduceus and pinecones. The upper part ornated with a bas-relief of a cavalcade at the market. This scene is topped with a fluted frieze and supported by stylized plants.
This lamps is based on a quatripode base in the form of animal paw.
Levillain was a famous sculptor, who worked on regular basis with the celeb Ferdinand Barbedienne Compagny.
