This rare pair of double stained glass windows was made by H. Mathieu who signed and date his work 1880. Each panel is composed in the same way with a central rectangular scene and two medallions situated above and below. The medallions are decorated with chimeras and fantasy monsters on one side and mens' heads on the other. The central scenes depict pairs of artistocratic characters. Following the architecture of the Neo-Renaissance style, the men are lansquenets or gentlemen whilst the women are elaborately dressed. We don't know much about the person who made these panels, H. Mathieu. However, we have found stained glassed windows made by him: in a cellar in Père Lachaise, ""Le coeur du Christ"" is signed and dated 1897. We know that there is also a stained glass window in the transept of the church Chandai in Orne, dedicated to Notre-Dame des Malades and dated 1877.
Each pannel is 226 cm in height by 47.5 cm in width.
