Neo-Gothic oak double door from the 19th century. The lower panels present a decor of vertical folds while the panels above are richly carved with Gothic inspired animals. Two powerfully carved phoenix affronte on either side of a gadroon vase, among scrolls of vegetables and garlands of stylized flowers. The vase bears a shield with initials. The composition is crowned by two fanciful animals with long curlicue tongs. This is a free adaptation of the Gothic style with its imaginary bestiary, of which gargoyles are a famous example.
Same model as false pair of doors item 1399.
