This cast iron antique statue called "Le Berger Flûteur" was made during the 19th century according the original marble model by Antoine Coysevox. The marble original is today at the Louvre museum in Paris. It was made in 1709 by the french sculptor to decorate the gardens of château de Marly. Along with Hamadryade and Flore, it was destined to make up an allegorical group of the forest. The marble statue was kept in the jardins des Tuileries from 1716. The cast iron statue is a reproduction of the original size of the marble statue. The statue features a shepherd playing a flute with a young Satyr on his back. The latter placing his finger on his lips, asking the spectators to be quiet. Whilst he does this, the shepherd is playing the flute. A pan-pipe is by his feet. Coysevox's signature and the date 1709 can be found on the base of the statue.
