Monumental cast iron garden fountain with a putti signed by "J.J Ducel"

Dimensions
Width 42'' ⅛  107cm

Depth: 39'' ¾  101cm

Origin:
19th century

Status:
Patina of the time. The basin floor is rugged and miss (restorations needed).

This large antique fountain is a true work of art. Its shape and features are very elegant, and it is crowned with a putti figurine seated in a shell. A drape unfolds from above his head, simulating the action of the wind that we imagine. The putti is supported by a dolphin which enters the water in the basin below. This basin itself features a lion protome whose head once again enters the water of another basin. This exquisite item can be used to add character to a garden or an interior courtyard. This large fountain is a product of the Ducel Foundry, well known casting manufacturer during the 19th century. Founded in 1810, it was passed down three generations. Part of the precursors for the production of cast iron works of art, it collaborated with many sculptors like Frédéric Iselin and Eugène Louis Lequesne. In 1878 it was bought by the foundry of Val d'Osne who take on the same style in their work as that of the Ducel Foundry.
