Fountain with Nymphs

Dimensions
Width 191''   485cm
Height 86'' ⅝  220cm

Origin:
Late 19th century early 20th. From a private estate in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, salvaged circa 20 years ago.

Status:
Good condition

Large fountain in sculpted stone originally at the back of a garden against a rise above a large basin of water. Water came out of the mouths of the long haired heads of women and the dolphins on either side of the central high relief statue of a pair of Naiads. Could be also placed against a wall.

The fountain comes from the garden of a villa used in a French italian movie called La Grande Bouffe (English: The Grande Bouffe and Blow-Out) from 1973 film directed by Marco Ferreri. The film stars Marcello Mastroianni, Ugo Tognazzi, Michel Piccoli and Philippe Noiret, and tells the story of four friends who gather in a villa for the express purpose of eating themselves to death. "Bouffer" is French slang for "eating". Marco Ferreri won the FIPRESCI Prize given by the International Federation of Film Critics at Cannes Film Festival in 1973. The film was somewhat controversial upon its original release with its humour and comic depictions of sex and over-eating.
