The Volvic stone is a volcanic rock which was very much used in the constructions in particular in the surroundings of Clermont-Ferrand. It has a color ranging from light gray to black hues. It comes mainly from the quarries located near Volvic which were heavily exploited during the 19th and 20th centuries.
