This remarkable mantel, a virtuoso piece of marble carving craftsmanship, is an exceptional example of the Neo-Renaissance inspiration that prevailed in the 19th century.
Very architectural in design, with a high curved pediment above the hearth opening, and a geometrical elegant simplicity in its classicism that highlights the beauty of the patterns and colors of this Sarrancolin marble.
This type of design was very common between the late Renaissance to early 17th century. The mantel in the chateau de Roquetaillade is a beautiful example of this design.
