Origin:
France Late 18th century

This rare and gorgeous mantel carved in Breche d’Alep is from the late 18th century.
All its lines are curved: the gentle wave of the entablature is flanked by console jambs. The delicate Rococo ornamentation is pure Louis XV style: fan shaped curled leaves with drops of foliage adorn the heads of the jambs while short asymmetrical flames rise up from their bases. At the center of the entablature a finely carved splayed shell, framed by foliage displays a quality of sculpture, which reveals the age of the piece.
Such large dimensions were rare for the time, and equate this mantel with the princely or royal ones of the Versailles Palace and Chantilly Palace.

The very graphic effect of Breche d'Alep marble was greatly appreciated in the 18th century particularly in the Southern regions of France.
A large woodwork frame overmantel with its original mirrors and created for this mantel is available.
This fireplace is sold without any fireplace insert nor marble floor.
