This exceptional Louis XVI style and era antique fireplace was made in the late 18th century. The impressive bas-relief frieze is adorned with standing figures representing the Muses. This bas-relief was based on the frieze adorning the "Sarcophagus of the Muses", a Roman antiquity of the 2nd century A.D. conserved in the Louvre and coming from the former collection of Cardinal Albani.
The jambs of this fireplace are composed of beautiful fluted columns topped with Corinthian capitals displaying an astonishingly perfect quality of carving.

This fireplace is sold with its marble floor (another marble floor could be made to order) but without any fireplace insert (the fireback is not available).
