Characteristic of the Empire style, this Turquin Blue marble mantel combines all the elements of the style. Carved in “bardiglio” Turquin, it is adorned with applied bronze ornaments, a decorative element that was much developed during this period. The motifs are also typical: palmettes, torches, mascarons and, above all, the open winged eagle, emblem of the Empire of Napoleon I, which figures on the hood of the insert. The design of the jambs is very rare, with Pharaoh heads in the Egyptomania fashion. Their tapered bodies reveal only their bronze feet and heads draped with the Nemes, head cloth of the king. This is a perfectly remarkable mantel.
