In very good condition. One small chip on one acanthus leaf at the top of the fireplace.
This beautiful antique Louis XVI style fireplace was made out of a beautiful semi-statuary Carrara marble; it is very white and very finely sculpted. Made towards the end of the 19th century, this fireplace is decorated with fluted columns and asparagus heads making up the jambs. They are crowned with acanthus leaves capitals. The carving work of the frieze is really fine : scrolls of acanthus leaves, foliage and flowers stand out on a bush-hammered background.
Pierre Ferret was born in 1877 and was an architect in Bordeaux. Around 1910, he built his house at 80 Avenue Carnot in Bordeaux, a place that was both his home and his workshop. Designed by himself, Ferret Hotel was fully furnished and decorated by Pierre Ferret.
This fireplace is sold with an antique cast iron insert and with its marble floor.
