The sober lines of this mantel are characteristic of the Louis XVI style. The straight entablature is carved with a single rectangular recessed panel. The slightly protruding jamb heads are adorned with full bloom sunflowers set in square molded frames. The jambs themselves are stop fluted and are very delicately curved from top to bottom and tapered, bringing a soft movement to the composition. The husks that end the tips of the fillets are characteristic of the Louis XVI style. The straight sides and the shelf add to the refinement of this semi-statuary marble mantel.
