The straight and slightly molded sides of this fireback frame a scene from classical iconography. A charioteer drives a two wheel chariot drawn by a pair of galloping horses. The naked man is muscular, his groin hidden by a simple cloth. He holds the reins in a firm grip, while preparing to whip the horses. The group rests on a platform supported by decorative volutes and swags.
