This pair of Louis XVI style andirons was made in the 19th century. The chasing and the quality of the gilding are quite remarkable.
On each andiron, a lyre and a torch are raised on a pedestal adorned with rosettes, a beautiful lion head and Jupiterian lightning. The pedestal is itself richly ornamented so that it can be seen from above.
The lyre is supported by paws of lions and adorned with bay leaves and garlands. Two masks of satyrs adorn its summit, recalling the patronage of Dionysus for the music and the feast.
