Beautiful pair of antique gilt bronze andirons made in 1882 by the French furniture and bronze maker Henry Dasson (1825-1896) as indicate the signature and the date. Two sphinxes are represented, perpetuating the tradition of the favorites of the King who were portrayed under the features of Sphinges such as Pompadour or Madame Du Barry.
