This antique Louis XIV style fireback dates from the late 17th or early 18th century. It is decorated with the arms of Paul de Beauvilliers, Duke of Saint-Aignan, described as “Fess argent and vert of six pieces, the fess argent being made up of three martlets Gules, 3, 2 and 1”. The shield is supported by two eagles and is topped with the duke’s crown and surrounded by the necklace of the King’s Order.
