Made of walnut wood, this stand with typical Art Nouveau lines is work by Louis Majorelle and was exhibited on the furniture maker's stand during the World's Fair of 1910 in Brussels. The lines square shape stands for lightness, its slab is put on a base composed of four feet reminding the stem of a plant, flaring out and joined by a second shelf and a third one. An elegant sculpted decor adorns the superior part, we can recognize vines. Thus, our fine furniture embodies a certain idea of nature and the vegetal world through acute angles and the softness of the shapes. Louis Majorelle was born in 1859, during this time his father, Auguste already had an earthenware and furniture maker activity. He especially used to adorn furniture with the Martin varnish technique and decorate them in a Far East maner. Initiated to the Art Nouveau movement by Emile Gallé in 1894, Louis Majorelle became in February 1901, one of the founding members of the Ecole de Nancy. His work is then characterized by the use of natural elements for the shapes. He evolved toward shapes more simple after his huge success during the World Fair of 1900.
