This elegant walnut wood bench seat covered with dark green fabric reminds, by the curved of its backrest, of the art from the Ecole de Nancy, major birthplace of the Art Nouveau style in France. The stylistic evolutions of this artistic movement relatively short, spreading between the early 1890's and the beginning of the World War I, seem to indicate that this furniture was probably made around 1910.
This longue bench seat invites to relaxation, by the welcoming inclination of its backrest and the softness of its curves in the armrests and the feet on the back. The walnut wood opened work that forms the structure creates shapes that are lightening the general composition. Also, the incise work of the wood comes to modestly underline the lines. Thus, our fine furniture embodies a certain idea of nature and the vegetal world through acute angles and the softeness of the shapes.
Nevertheless, a decorative austerity and especially the rigidity of the front feet which are forming a perfectly straight angle witht the seat,
tends to indicate that the production marks the end of the Art Nouveau style and curved lines to annunce the Art Deco which began circa 1910.
