This small sculpted group depicting two duelists crossing swords was executed by Elie Mardini around 1930.
The sculptor Elie Mardini, of Italian origin, lived in France during the Art Deco period, particularly in the 1930s and 1940s.
He distinguished himself particularly in sports representations, including this dueling scene. The position of the protagonists is highlighted by the almost abstract rendering of their bodies. He also created a beautiful basketball player in the posture of a “reverse dunk”.
