Beautiful antique sculpture representing a muse playing the lyre made in Statuary marble of Carrara in the second half of the 19th century.
The pedestal bears the signature "E. Baratta Carrara" for Eumone Baratta, Italian sculptor born in Carrara in 1823. He began his studies in his hometown then, in 1847, he received a two years pension to study in Rome.
He participated in the defense of Rome against the French and, after the defeat of the Roman Republic, he remained in Roma and Florence. In 1858, he became professor of sculpture at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Carrara.
