Brown patina bronze, gilded bronze and Sarrancolin marble.
This charming bronze sculpture with two patinas is a work of Auguste Moreau. Made out of brown patina bronze and gilded bronze circa 1880 by the founder Charles Gautier, the sculpture depicts Cupid, carrying a large cup. Winged, wearing a quiver in the back, Cupid is depicted realistically, with rich details carved in bronze, as this little butterfly resting on the forearm of the character.
The subject rests on a circular gilt bronze base, itself supported by a Sarrancolin marble base.
Born in 1834 and died in 1917, Auguste Moreau was a French sculptor mostly known for his bronzes d'art.
