This pair of Louis XVI style vases in crystal and gilt bronze was made in the second half of the 19th century. It is attributed to the Baccarat crystal workshops.
Founded in 1764, the French manufacturer Baccarat has been producing exceptionally pure crystal since 1816. The company participated in the Universal Exhibitions starting from 1855, where it won numerous awards.
This pair of crystal vases with rich gilt bronze mounts fits within this tradition. Their base rests on a garland of laurel leaves. The bottom of the body is supported by acanthus leaves arranged in a regular and symmetrical pattern. The crystal body is encircled by a frieze of diamond-point motifs playing with the reflections of light and gold. The upper level is adorned with flower garlands held by two swan neck-shaped handles characteristic of the Louis XVI style (1774-1789). The vases are topped with gilt bronze lids.
