The gilt bronze frame from Belgium, second half of the 19th c. Imari porcelain vase from the 18th c, Japan.
Status:
In very good condition.
This large antique clock consists of an Imari porcelain covered vase from 18th century Japan. This vase was drilled to receive, on his belly, the enamel dial of the clock.
The realization of the gilt and patinated bronze mount is attributed to the Compagnie des Bronzes de Bruxelles (Belgium), a small company born in July 1854.
Two Fo dogs shaped handles are placed on both side of the body of the vase.
The gilt bronze clock base is highly decorated with turtles, dragons and characters from Japanese mythology.
This work is quite characteristic of the vogue for Japonism which took place in Europe in the late 19th century.
The Compagnie des Bronzes de Bruxelles was really famous until its shutdown in 1970 and especially in the late 19th century for manufacture of bronze lighting and furnishings.
