This antique clock from the late 19th century was made of ceramic in a Chinoisant style inherited from the vogue for Japonisme and Chinoiserie. Resting on a base made of openwork wood, a Foo dog, also called 'Shishi', is shown. The Foo dog is a Chinese guard, often placed in front of Imperious Palaces, temples and tombs. The painted decoration is very delicate, made of flowers enhanced with gold.
