The clock set is made from Chinese cloisonne enamel vases from the early 19th century mounted with patinated bronze elements. These ones are 1880's French work.
The clock is made from a piece of Chinese cloisonne enamel vase and 1880's French bronze. the work on cloisonné enamel is highly delicate and forms the body of the movement of the clock. Thus, cartridges shelter birds in a lake landscape made on a midnight blue background contrasting with the blue sky also present on the enamel. The colors are very vivid and proves high-quality manufacturing. The bronze ornaments are extremely originals. A small Chinese character is balanced on the cloisonné enamel vase while the latter is based on the wings of a dragon.
This clock set is characteristic of a practice in vogue in the late 19th century, coming from the very pronounced taste for the Far East : reuse authentically Chinese elements into objects of European design, intended to take place in the most sumptuous interiors.
