This pair of Louis XVI style covered vases is attributed to the Sèvres Manufactory. They are from the 19th century and are marked with two intertwined L's under the lids. They are shaped like a Greek amphora and minutely decorated. These are porcelain vases colored with a deep blue enamel that brings out the golden parts: the base, the base of the neck, and the base of the lid. The lower part of the body, the handles, the neck, and the tip of the lid are adorned with leafy white motifs and golden highlights.
These vases are an imitation of the Louis XVI style that was brought back, like many other styles from past centuries, in the 1800's. There is a certain neoclassicism mixed with natural designs typical of the Louis XVI style. In this way, the Greek amphora is transformed by an 18th-century style adapted to the 19th century.
