Pair of polychrome porcelain cassolettes and gold highlights, achieved in the 19th century in the Greek Revival taste.
It is decorated with gilted frieze and a Meander frieze in black and pink.
The central part is composed by a neo-Greek scene with different characters such as a vestal, soldier, lute player, ...
The tripod base is composed of fluted pilasters ending in lion's claws.
The base is round and decorated with a Meander frieze and a palmettos frieze.
The use of pink and black is a reference to the Red-figure vases of the Greek antiquity. The characters depicted in these cassolettes are definitely inspired from famous vases of European museums collections, such as the 'Crater of Niobe' (see detail).
