This pair of kerosene lamps were made in the last quarter of the 19th century in faience and bronze mounted.
On each lamps a parakeets sitting on an orchid is represented on a green background with flowers, they are different on each lamps. The top and the base are ornemanted with geometricals motifs on a purple background. The handles are enamelled with stylized red flowers on a yellow background and blue frame.
The lamps rests on an openwork bronze mount. The glass globes were made posteriorly.

The shape of this lamp refers to the “Alhambra” vases. They were producted under the Nasrid dynasty (1238-1492), which was the last Muslim Kingsdom in Spain (Granada). In the 19th century, those vases were very fashionable thanks to the collector and painter Mariano Fortuny y Marsal (1838-1874).
A well-known artwork was the Alhambra vase made for the Universal Exposition in Paris in 1878, by Théodore Deck (1823-1891). This ceramist was very popular in the last quarter of the 19th century.
Our lamps are signed 'E. BERNARD', this artist must have been influenced by Deck's work. He choose not only the Alhambra shape, but also a composition very close to one of his production - see pictures.
