Gilded bronze, Chinese cloisonné enamel.
Made from Chinese cloisonné enamel, this rare pair of curved lamps acts as a montage of work carried out during the 1880s in France. The work carried out to make the cloisonné enamel is exceptional and decorates the body of each lamp. The realistic floral branches, surrounded by butterflies, made out of lively colours such as red, yellow and green, cover a blue background decorated with geometric shapes, following in the style of Chinese cloisonné enamel.
The neck is decorated slightly differently; with an interlacing décor and a red bat, and with more abstract shapes. The gilded bronze décor, made in France, has also been very elegantly made. Two bearded men are placed on the paunch of each vase and rest on a base of perforated bronze.
These lamps follow the fashionable technique adopted towards the end of the 19th century, when there was a very pronounced taste in the Far East. This technique involved reusing authentic Chinese elements on European objects, which would then be placed inside the most magnificent buildings.
